LCD displays have a bonding technology called optical bonding. So what is optical bonding technology, and what are its advantages and disadvantages? Let's take a detailed look at the optical bonding technology of LCD displays.

Optical bonding is an assembly method that laminates a touch screen (or other rigid material) onto the surface of an LCD display screen. Typically, a special adhesive is used to cure this form of optical adhesive between the display screen and the touch screen, forming a tight and stable connection without the presence of air. Compared with traditional frame bonding, optical bonding has many advantages, the most important of which is the enhancement of optical properties and the increase of structural strength.

It is common to add covering materials such as glass, PMMC, PET, etc. on the surface of LCD screens as display devices. It can be attached to the display screen with double-sided tape, or through OCA, OCR, etc., which we call optical bonding. Optical bonding technology uses OCA optical adhesive or OCR to bond the display panel and cover glass together as a whole. It can also be bonding between the display panel and CTP capacitor module. OCA optical adhesive is a colorless and transparent material with excellent optical properties, which can provide certain physical compatibility between LCD panels and glass cover plates. The double-sided tape is bonded with an air layer in the middle, which will reflect light, so the display effect is not as good; And optical binding, with a transparent dielectric layer in the middle and no air layer, reduces the number of internal reflection surfaces, greatly improving its optical properties and maintaining good display effects.

The advantages of optical bonding technology for LCD displays:

1. Improve seismic buffering capacity. OCA optical adhesive acts as a buffer between the glass cover and the LCD panel. The seismic resistance technology of LCD screens mainly considers stiffness and damping. Due to its own stiffness, tempered glass can withstand most of the impact energy from external forces. Through the buffering of the OCA layer, the stress transmitted by the system to the LCD screen is reduced, achieving the effect of earthquake resistance buffering.

2. Improve optical performance. The double-sided tape is bonded with an air layer in the middle, which will reflect light, so the display effect is not as good. Optical binding, on the other hand, has a transparent medium layer called optical adhesive in the middle, without an air layer, while OCA optical adhesive can prevent multiple reflections of light on different media. Therefore, the optical binding technology of LCD displays can reduce diffuse reflection of light, effectively improve the optical performance of LCD displays, and significantly enhance the strong light visibility and sunlight visibility of the display screen.

In addition, the optical bonding technology of LCD displays can prevent dust and moisture from entering the LCD panel, increase the waterproof performance of the screen, and also have the advantage of eliminating water streaks caused by pressing on the display screen. Compared to air bonding, optical bonding does indeed increase costs significantly and is no longer conducive to maintenance. But the improvement in optical performance it brings, as well as its more impact and vibration resistant characteristics, is also evident. The optical bonding technology of LCD displays is increasingly favored by the market.

Advantages of optical bonding:

◆ Increase the transmittance of the product by removing the reflection factor between the LCD and touch screen

◆ Improve display performance in brighter ambient light

◆ Under brighter ambient light, higher brightness can be achieved with less energy consumption

◆ Enhance mechanical performance

◆ Provide better display effect and seismic resistance

◆ Eliminated the hidden dangers of dust and moisture entering between the display screen and touch screen

◆ Low fogging and low yellowing filling material
